Boise, once a small city center, has become the most populous city of Idaho with a bustling social and economic scene. It is the cultural center home to numerous emerging businesses, and high rise buildings. The area has a variety of shops, restaurants, bars, outdoor venues, and walking paths.

The city boasts all 4 seasons, with fun things to do year round. In the last few years, we have been fortunate to have an emerging brewery and restaurant scene. It fits right in with the bike and outdoor trail culture. You can walk the green belt, hike up  table rock, and grab a beer all within city limits.

In the last decade or so, Boise has become a popular travel destination for surrounding states. Millions now flock to Boise each year – and this Boise Idaho Travel Guide will tell you everything you need to know.

Things To Do

Things To Explore

Downtown and the surrounding area in Boise, has an amazing mixture of indoor and outdoor activities. Every time I leave the state I’m reminded how much there is to do in my home city all within a 5 mile radius.

We have amazing green space right out our backdoor. I can check out the Basque Museum in the morning, walk the green belt after lunch, and then jump on my Mountain Bike for a quick Shane’s Loop before dinner. If you live on the bench or downtown, everything is easily bikeable. The city has been working hard to build more bike and walking paths, making it fun to explore on foot or two wheels in the summer months if you want to avoid the parking.

If you’re looking for outdoor activities Boise boasts over 90 developed parks across the city, approximately 210 miles of Ridge to Rivers trails in the foothills, thousands of acres of open space, and 25 miles of the Boise River Greenbelt

Recreational facilities host two muncipal golf courses, Idaho IceWorld, local pools, Zoo Boise, and more.  Check out the City of Boise Parks and Recreation if you’re looking for affordable classes/camps for all ages and abilities. They have fitness programs, educational tours, special events, and art and drama classes. If you have school children they offer after class school-based community centers.

With all the new-comers to Idaho, our downtown has been undergoing a major revival. Our cultural centers offer seasonal events, and with the newest addition of the JUMP building downtown, there is almost always something going on.

Every time I leave the Pacific Northwest, I’m reminded why I love our beer so much! The IPA’s… the Hazy’s… and the Porter’s… oh my…

There have been a number of breweries that have opened their doors in the last decade. All have their own unique flare and beer selection. Most of the them host weekday/weekend events to those looking for an excuse to drink their tasty brews.

Caldwell may be wine country, but Boise offers it’s own tasting rooms and urban wineries. Some of the locations offer a large menu, others a food truck, and some small snacks.
