7 Indoor Climbing Gyms In The Treasure Valley

Are you looking for somewhere to climb during the Winter months? Here are the best indoor climbing gyms near Boise, in the Treasure Valley for bouldering, yoga, and indoor top rope.

7 Indoor Climbing and Bouldering Gyms in Treasure Valley

I personally love climbing! My brother and I got into it a few years ago when Boise used to be home to Urban Ascent, and later my home gym was Asana for the great bouldering. Now, I tend to climb at The Commons Climbing Gym, which is near and dear to my heart. Luckily for everyone, there are a few indoor climbing gyms near Boise!

I want everyone else to seek out the thrill that is top rope climbing and bouldering. Especially in the long, dark, and boring Winter months, indoor climbing is something to do that helps me stay in shape while also staying sane.

Are you looking for something to do in the Winter months to stay in shape or get out of the house? Try getting into climbing or bouldering! Most of the gyms offer a combination of bouldering and top rope, with a small gym built in for warm up and lifting. Climbing is a great activity for kids and adults all year long.

Below is a list of the best indoor climbing and bouldering gyms in the Treasure Valley.

Indoor Building and Climbing Gyms Treasure Valley

  1. The Commons Climbing Gym
  2. Vertical View
  3. Asana Climbing Gym
  4. The YMCA
  5. Boise State University Recreation Center

The Commons Climbing Gym

4795 W W Emerald St, Boise, ID 83706

This is my home gym so it goes #1 on the list for indoor climbing gyms near Boise. They have great bouldering routes, ever changing top rope, great guided yoga, and an overall amazing vibe. The owners are kind, and amazing people who have put a lot of work into making sure this gym is one of a kind.

It’s located on the Boise Bench, making it a convenient location for those looking for bouldering and tope rope in Boise. The facility has a small yoga studio where regular classes are held on a rotating basis, you can find the calendar on their site.

The gym has an elliptical, free weights, bench bar, and practice areas for bouldering and grip strength. Pretty much anything you would need to warm up, or bulk up after climbing.

The Commons has definitely created a great climbing community as they host weekly kid events, happy hour socials, and fun holiday themed parties for their members. I strongly recommend joining this climbing gym on the bench if you’re looking for a fun new hobby that beats going to your typical gym.

Your first visit you will need to fill out a waiver, and if you are new to the sport, take a belay course. The course takes less than 15 minutes and will familiarize you with Climb On and Belay techniques. They offer rental equipment for the day, but I do recommend buying your own gear if you’re planning on buying a membership.

I climb here almost three times a week with my brother and with the consistent rotation of top rope courses, it never gets old.  If I come by myself they do have 3-4 auto belays to use which has been amazing for some solo climbing. Want to learn how to lead climb? They offer a regular class for you to take your climbing outdoors!

Vertical View

1334 E Bird Dog Dr, Meridian, ID 83642

Looking for a large climbing and bouldering gym near Meridian and Nampa? Welcome Vertical View, one of the newer climbing gyms to the Treasure Valley.

Similar to The Commons it has created a great community of climbers young and old. They offer student specials, Holiday Events, and climbing competitions. They are also reasonably priced for a gym that offers yoga, climbing, and a medium sized gym filled with free weights and bench bars.

They do have a full service climbing gym with a bouldering course, rope courses, auto belays, and a youth climbing room. This is a great spot for kids climbing, or planning group trips.

You will need to take an initial Belay On course that costs 5$ after filling out your initial waiver. If you have climbed at other locations and received a belay course you don’t need to repeat it.

They do offer individual passes, but you will get a discount for family passes, or couple passes. If you don’t want to climb, and only use the yoga studio and fitness gym, there is a special membership. This is great for parents who want to let their kids come for youth events, while they work out.

I have only been to this location a few times, but all of the facilities are brand new, and the staff has always been helpful and friendly! Check out this amazing climbing gym near Boise.

Asana Climbing Gym

4977 N Glenwood St, Garden City, ID 83714

Where can I boulder in Boise? Asana Climbing Gym definitely ranks high for bouldering in the Treasure Valley. This large gym located in Garden City, is a hotspot for Meridian, Eagle, Garden City, and Boise climbers.

Similar to the other gyms in the valley, Asana offers yoga, a small gym, top rope, and bouldering. Unlike The Commons, or Vertical View, Asana focuses most of its effort on the bouldering routes. The majority of this gym is bouldering which is great if you’re looking for somewhere to go during the Winter months with kids.

Looking for Aerial yoga? Asana is unique in that they have paired climbing and meditation with aerial yoga classes. The wide variety of ground yoga and aerial arts means there is something for everyone!

For climbing you can bring your own gear, but if trying this out for the first time they do offer rentals. Pricing consists of monthly memberships or punch cards, with student and family discounts available. For people new to climbing, Asana does offer bouldering and climbing classes with a trained climber.

This spot is more ideal for young kids, and birthday parties as there is only a small area for rope climbing, as the largest part of the gym is the bouldering courses.

Asana has an extremely welcoming community for anyone wanting to learn to boulder or climb. An ideal location for Meridian and Eagle climbers, or those looking for something to do in the Winter months to stay active.
